A very big thank you to the pupils, parents, staff and friends of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School in Rottingdean, for their incredibly generous donations to our Sunday food bank.
The Head Teacher, Paul Barber, got in touch with us after visiting the Fitzherbert Community Hub. He said his pupils were keen to contribute to the food bank. The collection went from strength to strength, with the nuns in the neighbouring convent also getting involved. What we expected to be a few bags of food and toiletries turned out to be a van load of supplies which filled our shelves almost to overflowing!
Paul said,
“As the Head Teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes, Rottingdean, I am always looking for opportunities for the children to live out their faith in practical ways. After visiting St. John the Baptist Church and seeing the work of the Fitzherbert Community Hub, I thought I’d mention it to the children in our next assembly. I thought we might collect a couple of crates of food; but the children had different ideas: they really went for it! It was very moving when we were able to donate a significant amount of food – and they are still keen to give more.”
Demand for the food bank continues to grow and last Sunday we welcomed 115 visitors. If you would like to help, contact us on admin@fitzherbertcommunityhub.org.uk to find out how.
