As part of the Fitzherbert Community Hub’s commitment to creating built environment that helps people and the planet thrive we have joined the UK Green Building Council.

Their mission is to radically improve the sustainability of the built environment, by transforming the way it is planned, designed, constructed, maintained and operated and to support its members in mitigating and adapting to climate change, eliminating waste and maximising resource efficiency and embracing and restoring nature and promoting biodiversity.

The design of the Fitzherbert Community Hub has incorporated carbon footprint reduction measures, adopting the “Be Lean” energy design approach reducing the need for reliance on fossil fuels and resulting in reduced energy costs in the long term.

A whole systems approach to the landscape design of the Community Garden ensures we will embrace the dual potential of this project to improve the well-being of people and benefit the environment referencing projects like Health Streets (Transport for London) and Green Streets (West Yorkshire Transport Fund) as inspiration.

We are also working to the principles of the UK Green Building Council’s Framework for Defining and Delivering Social Value on Built Environment Projects” through optimising ways in which the hub can improve the health, wellbeing and quality of life of local people and create long-term value for society. In the future, we hope to see a happier, healthier, and more connected local community with the Fitzherbert Community Hub at its heart.
